That's because Richmond has more than 200 buildings in the National Register of Historic Places, ranging from train stations to commercial buildings, cathedrals, homes, and grand public buildings like Old City Hall.   • Neoclassical Architecture at the Science Museum of Virginia – 2500 W. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23220
    The Science Museum of Virginia is an outstanding example of Neoclassical architecture in Richmond, and also demonstrates how older buildings in the city are given new purpose while retaining their historic charm. The building was once known as Broad Street Station, serving as a bustling transit hub for more than 50 years. The building was designed by John Russell Pope, who is most famous for designing the Jefferson Memorial. Today, the museum features educational family fun for all ages, and the building itself is worth the trip just for the architecture.

  • Tudor Manor at Agecroft Hall & Gardens – 4305 Sulgrave Rd., Richmond, VA 23221
    Originally a 14th-century manor constructed in England, Agecroft Hall & Gardens has an extensive history that stretches across the Atlantic. The home was dismantled in England before being carefully reconstructed in the Windsor Farms neighborhood of Richmond, so it's a true example of the Tudor style of architecture, which was popular in England when the manor was first constructed. You can tour Agecroft Hall & Gardens today, and it's even furnished with historic English furniture.

  • Local History at the Maggie Walker House – 600 N. 2nd St., Richmond, VA 23219
    Constructed in 1904 and designated a Historic Landmark in 1975, the Maggie Walker House is a great example of how historic homes and local legends intertwine. Maggie Walker was a powerful and dynamic figure in the community, with her home serving as a key social hub in the Jackson Ward neighborhood at the time. The home is open for tours today, where you can see the historic architecture and learn more about Maggie Walker's impact on local history.

  • Gilded Age Luxury at Maymont Mansion – 1700 Hampton St., Richmond, VA 23220
    With 33 rooms and more than 12,000 square feet of living space, Maymont Mansion is an amazing example of the luxurious, stylish homes of the Gilded Age. It was constructed in 1893, featuring a mix of Romanesque Revival and Queen Anne style architecture. Maymont Mansion is undergoing its largest historic preservation project ever through the end of 2025, and is set to re-open better than ever in early 2026. However, you can still visit to tour the gorgeous Maymont Gardens, see the exterior of the mansion, and visit the Robins Nature Center located on Maymont grounds.
